9 years ago today, after being on bed rest for 3 months because Jasmine kept trying to come early, I was awoken by my water breaking in bed. I shook Bryan and said "Honey, my water just broke!" he looked over at me and said "Are you sure you just didnt wet your pants?" I said "Im sure I didnt, it is a different feeling" I called the doctor, and she asked if I was having any contractions. I wasnt(surprisingly) She told me to come to the office so she could check. Bryan got up, and got all of my stuff together, and off we went. The doctor confirmed that my water had broke and told us to get to the hospital. (Bryan was concerned that I hadnt eaten breakfast yet, and asked if he could stop to get me something to eat first.) So we stopped at a drive thru and were on our way. The closer we got to the hospital, the more nervous I got. I looked at Bryan and said "Im not sure I want to do this" he laughed and said "well baby, its kinda too late to do anything about it now" We got to the hospital at about 9 am, got settled into our room, and called to let everyone know. Our family started showing up and came to hang out with us. Despite Jasmine trying to come early for the last 3 months, after my water broke, I hardly had any contractions all day. I spent the day walking the hospital with my mom and Bryan. I kept talking to Jasmine, and joking "oh, now that it is safe, you dont want to come out?" (that shouldve been a clue to how stubborn she can be) I had to be induced around 8pm. My contractions started coming and they were pretty intense. By about 9:30 I told everyone to get out except for Bryan. ( my parents, grandparents, sisters, and mother in law were all in the room) At about 12 They told me that if she wasnt born by 2 am, I would have to have a c-section because my water had been broke for so long. I remember getting really scared, and I rubbed my stomach, and said, "come on baby girl, we can do this" I remember after a while, my body started to push. I had wanted an epidural, but my nurse was an idiot and kept putting it off and dilly dallying around, saying, "oh this is your first baby, we are going to be here for a long time, we have hours". My mom came back into the room (claiming that she need to get something, but I knew she was just making sure she was there for the birth) The nurse then said she could call someone to come give me the epidural then, but it would slow things down. I said that I would rather just get it over with, and I would try to do it with out any drugs. I started pushing, and the nurse kept saying she was going to wait to call for the doctor. First Bryan and my mom saw Jasmines head, then her shoulders, then her chest. They were telling the nurse to call the doc. She kept putting it off. Finally she looked over and saw that she was half out (Bryan and my mom were looking at each-other, thinking that one of them were going to have to let go of my leg to catch her.) She ran over, flipped the end of the bed out and called the doc. The doctor ran in, and caught Jasmine on my last push. After eight big pushes, at 1:44 am November 2, 2001 our beautiful Jasmine Mahri was born! My mom went running out into the waiting room to tell everyone (my dad and sisters were listening at the door the whole time) She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Bryan and I were so happy. I cant believe she is 9 already. It just doesnt seem possible.
